In recent years, air pollution control technologies in China have evolved rapidly to meet increasingly strict environmental standards. One widely adopted and highly effective solution for treating low- to medium-concentration volatile organic compounds (VOCs) is the activated carbon adsorption–desorption catalytic combustion system.
At Chaori Purification, we specialize in engineering and manufacturing this integrated solution to meet the unique demands of industries generating complex organic waste gases. So, how does this system work, and what level of purification can it achieve? Let’s take a closer look.
This equipment combines three core processes—adsorption, desorption, and catalytic combustion—into a seamless cycle designed to treat VOCs that are unsuitable for direct combustion due to their low concentrations.
Low-concentration VOCs are first drawn into an activated carbon bed, where organic molecules are adsorbed onto the porous surface of the carbon. This stage handles large air volumes while concentrating the VOCs into the carbon matrix.
Once the carbon reaches its adsorption limit, the system initiates thermal desorption. A small volume of heated air or inert gas is used to strip the VOCs from the carbon, creating a high-concentration, low-flow gas stream suitable for efficient treatment.
The concentrated exhaust is then introduced into a catalytic combustion chamber, where it is heated to 280–300°C. In the presence of a catalyst (typically noble metals like platinum or palladium), the VOCs are oxidized into harmless carbon dioxide and water vapor—without flame combustion, making the process safer and more energy-efficient.

Temperature and gas concentration sensors
Programmable logic controller (PLC) with safety alarms
Removal rates typically exceed 95%, ensuring compliance with most industrial emission standards.
The heat released during catalytic combustion is recycled to support the desorption process, greatly reducing energy consumption.
The system does not produce hazardous byproducts such as NOx, dioxins, or sludge—making it environmentally safe.
Equipped with real-time monitoring and intelligent automation, the system supports fault detection, emergency shut-off, and long-term stable operation.
The system is space-efficient and can be customized based on factory layout and exhaust characteristics.
This system is especially suited for industries that emit low-concentration, high-volume VOCs, including:
Chemical manufacturing
Paint, coatings, and printing operations
Rubber and plastics processing
Pharmaceutical and cosmetic production
Semiconductor and electronics assembly
Automotive parts painting and finishing
