In industrial processes involving chemical etching, electroplating, or acid-based reactions, acid mist is a common and hazardous byproduct. These airborne contaminants—often composed of sulfuric acid, hydrochloric acid, or nitric acid vapors—can cause serious damage to equipment, human health, and the environment if not properly managed.
An acid mist exhaust gas scrubber, typically built with corrosion-resistant stainless steel, is an essential component in treating such emissions. But even the most advanced scrubber won’t perform effectively if not installed properly.
At Chaori Purification, we’ve compiled a set of key precautions and best practices to ensure your acid mist scrubber system is installed correctly for optimal performance.
Before diving into installation tips, it’s important to understand the basic components of a typical acid gas treatment setup:
Spray (scrubbing) system
Combustion or neutralization chamber (if applicable)
Gas collection hood or ductwork
Absorption or filtration unit
Circulating water pump
Exhaust fan or blower
Each component plays a critical role, and improper installation of even one element can impact the entire system’s effectiveness.
If the scrubber is to be installed outdoors, especially in colder climates, ensure anti-freeze protection at the base of the tower. This prevents structural and operational issues caused by low winter temperatures.
To ensure stability and long-term reliability, all pumps and blowers must be installed on reinforced concrete foundations, in accordance with manufacturer specifications.
At the top of the scrubber tower is a liquid level marking for the water tank. Always fill the tank according to the indicated level, and regularly monitor air suction volume to avoid imbalance in airflow and scrubbing performance.
The nozzle and collection chamber at the top of the tower are responsible for efficient mist capture and washing. Periodic checks should be performed to assess cleanliness and replace nozzles if they show signs of clogging or wear.
Before starting the scrubber:
During shutdown:
Over time, mineral deposits and particulate matter can build up in the spraying system. Perform routine inspections and flush or replace nozzles to maintain high scrubbing efficiency.
Correct installation ensures:
Poor installation, on the other hand, can result in odor leakage, equipment failure, and even safety hazards.
